Sunrise, Sunset

Actually, just sunrise. But don't tell Bright Eyes.

Last weekend, I went over to my friend Chris's apartment in Seoul with some friends. Unremarkable in itself, except that Chris happens to have a rooftop view of the city. I highly recommend drinking until six in the morning, climbing up onto a roof, and seeing this:

You know what else I highly recommend? Getting dumped [in a Facebook message] by your boyfriend of two years in the name of getting on Japanese girls. Try it, too, it's fun.

DMZ

Hi everyone,

It's been a while, I know. I've been very busy juggling my class/drinking schedule in a manner seen fit to both.

Last week, CIEE & I made a trip to the DMZ. Talk about crazy. The entire road leading up to & within the DMZ vicinity is lined with landmines spaced every three feet, AKA: not the kind of scenic route to take Woof Woof for a walk on. The DMZ is one of the most dangerous places in the world & I could feel it; I, however, did not ask the soldiers on duty, "Why so serious?"

I got soul, but I'm not a soldier!

Me after getting smacked by this soldier. They stand completely expressionless, silent, and still in an 'intimidating' taekwondo pose when on guard duty. The cute American G.I.s warned us not to walk too far past the guards, but I did... on accident. The soldier merely whipped out his left hand and smacked me forward on the back & then returned to his former position. Thoroughly chagrined.

Boo-fucking North Korea, dawg!

Arrival in Korea

Friends, Romans, Countrymen--lend me your ears:

August 24 (a la USA)/August 25 (a la Korea):
+ Thirteen-hour plane ride. Enough said.
+ Arrival at DMCVille. Talk about a swank-ass apartment! (Pictures to come.) My roommate, Wanda, is also from Mini-soda & is a fly lady!
+ After unpacking at DMCVille, a group & I went to eat across the street at a local, open-air Korean place. I bought a sandwich at une boulangerie & had to explain to everyone [chowing down on Korean meat] that I don't like meat [in my mouth]. A certain Brian booed me until we discovered our shared love of Irish Carbombs.
+ Zzzz...

August 26 (a la Korea):
+ 10AM; Orientation begins. Lots of walking, humidity, delicious food, and relatively useless information.
+ It becomes painfully obvious that I am the only person (of forty) on my program that smokes and/or speaks French.
+ I accidentally kick an ENORMOUS bug.
+ I drink seven soju shots with Wanda at our nighttime orientation party. Time for bed.

The end!
